MANUFACTURED HOME COMMUNITY OWNERS Trade Association Represents Manufactured Home
Park Owners LAS VEGAS – Manufactured Home Community Owners, a Nevada association since 1982, is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to representing and assisting owners and operators of approximately 65% of the available spaces throughout the state, according to Marolyn Mann, CAE, executive director of MHCO for the past 20 years. "Our group was originally formed when Logan Boggs recognized the need for Nevada manufactured home owners to protect their property rights through legislation," said Mann. "The organization, which has become a highly respected and effective trade association, began as a political action committee, the Nevada Manufactured Housing Educational Trust, with Boggs as the first president of the board of directors. Now, 25 years later, Boggs’s son, Alex, is our president." MHCO 25TH ANNIVERSARY – PAGE 2 Today, much has changed in the industry, notably the transition from trailer parks to manufactured home communities. MHCO, while working toward legislation designed to foster growth and success for the industry, also offers a wide variety of services to its members, including annual instructional classes providing six hours of continuing education for community owners and managers. Classes are held in both Las Vegas and Reno three times per year and once in a designated rural area of the state. Taught by professionals, classes include updates in law, legislative proceedings, landlord-tenant relationships and more. "We have an extremely high profile for a small industry, primarily because of the emotional nature of landlord-tenant relationships," Mann explained. "Membership in MHCO is open to anyone who owns a community and meets our code of ethics. As we like to say, ‘while you are busy doing other things, we are always on the job!’" MHCO’S Lot Rent Subsidy is unique in the nation as the only mandatory program of its kind. Through assessment to community owners of an annual fee of $12 per space, qualifying residents who could not otherwise remain in their homes can do so. Nearly $5 million has been contributed to date, at no cost to Nevada taxpayers. The association is governed by an 11-member of board of directors.
